No Ritmo da Terra

No Ritmo da Terra is the second chapter in Lua Viana’s sonic trilogy centered around the works of Ailton Krenak.

Articulating the “Ancestral Future” as an aesthetic project, the concept challenges anthropocentric views of the world in the face of climate change and turmoil, conceiving humanity as an organism separate from the body of Earth. Incorporating Ailton's philosophy through sound design, Viana manipulates elements of Brazilian Folk Music and Amazonian field recordings with Post-Rock, Glitch, and Avant-Garde Metal.

Written and performed in Portuguese, Tupi and Yoruba, No Ritmo da Terra recontextualizes Candomblé and Capoeira chants to create a dialogue between ancestrality and futurism while showing the impact of their collision.

No Ritmo da Terra promotes an ontological realignment with nature through the recovery of technologies developed by cultures that remained attached to the earth -- A necessary mechanism of survival from the erasure of subjectivities in the colonial process.

We must listen to those who came before us, and dance in the rhythm of the earth if we hope to survive.
